Back
Country Taxidermy Studio is the life long journey
of Dale Horton. He grew up in the rural surroundings of Kenosha
County in Southeastern Wisconsin. Living on a farm most of his
youthful years, hunting and fishing was second nature. Dale saw
the beauty in the game he and his neighbor friends bagged as part
of their hunting outings. The bright red eye of a rooster ring
neck pheasant or the beautiful plumage on the head of a male wood
duck. Dale saw taxidermy as a way to preserve that beauty for
years to come. Horton got his start back when he was about 9 yrs
old, he took a correspondence course from the Northwestern School
of Taxidermy. He used to practice on pigeons that his brother
shot for him. Once out of high school, Dale went to a technical
college for taxidermy and then started in the business part-time.
As his skills as a taxidermist grew so did word of the great work
he did. Friends of friends were asking Dale to mount whitetail
antlers or stuff that big large mouth bass. When the amount of
work he was able to get, surpassed the amount of time he was able
to devote to his taxidermy. Dale decided it was time for the doors
of Back Country Taxidermy Studio to
open full time. He is currently a member of the Wisconsin
Taxidermists Association as well as the National
Taxidermists Association. Back Country Taxidermy Studio
is located in the lower level of the Paddock Lake Sporting Goods
store on Highway 50 at the east end of town.
